Catfish is an impulsive girl, and tends to make her own judgments as a more independent thinking breed. She has unmatched engagement for a puppy her age, and is already proofing obedience in places that would be too distracting for some other puppies.
Catfish' scent drive is currently being put to use for HRD (Human Remains Detection) and SAR (Search and Rescue). She constantly has her nose to the ground and has required a lot of mental stimulation to allow her an outlet for her drives. Given that, Catfish has had a great off switch and is a very easy going girl. She's a perfect mix of couch potato and Hunter!
Catfish has been great with children, and from day one has been learning appropriate ways to interact with them.
Catfish keeps her distance at first when it comes to knew dogs, warms up quickly, and is learning a lot about body language from the more mature dogs on the property.
Catfish will no longer be available after May 12, 2025. After this date she will remain a permanent HRD prospect and no doubt be added to the Juggernaut Canine SAR Team.
Catfish loves to track and has the best scent drive of any dog I've trained for tracking. She's also in love with the Flirt pole, and has pretty great food drive so far, too. Catfish is very human social and being socialized to dogs and other animals daily.
The Catahoula Leopard Dog is a multi-purpose working dog that is well-muscled and powerful, but with a sense of agility and endurance. They are serious while working and playful at home.
The Catahoula Leopard Dog is a medium-large, short-coated dog, known for its many varied coat and eye colors and patterns. The word is of Choctaw origin and is translated to mean "sacred lake." Catahoula's are the only breed of dog to have historically originated in the state of Louisiana. The breed requires firm guidance and early socialization, as they can be independent, territorial, and protective. For the same reasons, they do not allow mistreatment and will assert themselves in self-defense. Once they know their place in the family unit, they are affectionate, loyal, and gentle. Also called the Catahoula Hog Dog, they are used as stock dogs, bay dogs, tree dogs, watchdogs, guard dogs, and of course as loyal companions.
